The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two million years ago, it is the world's largest inactive, unbroken, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater walls rise 600 meters above the floor, enclosing a self-contained 260-square-kilometer ecosystem of grasslands, soda lakes, swamps, and acacia woodlands. It acts as a permanent home for over 25,000 large mammals, including the endangered black rhino, lions, and massive bull elephants.
